Mayawati on damage control; farmers given compensation

The Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain visited the Bhatta Parsaul village and gave away Rs 50,000 each to the 16 farmers who were injured in the clashes. Another 49 farmers were given compensation of Rs 10,000 each.
The compensation was decided on the basis of a supplementary list prepared after National Human Rights Commission, National Women Commission and National Commission for Scheduled Caste. They visited the affected villages and recorded the farmer's statements to ascertain who was eligible for compensation. Around 110 farmers were provided the Centre's relief through the Prime Minister's relief fund earlier.
The Congress had recently announced that they would celebrate Youth Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's birthday on Jun 19 as Farmer's Rights Day across the country. The Congress had raised a hue and cry over the jungle raaj in UP. The Opposition are also raising the heat on the issue keeping in mid the fact that Assemble Elections are scheduled to be held next year in the state.
Mayawati had also claimed that political parties were politicizing the cause for their own gains.
