Hazare, Ramdev trying to undermine India's democracy: GPCC

Senior party leader Siddharth Patel criticised the Hazare-led civil representatives and said they cannot assume the powers of democratically elected members.
"The Parliament elected by the people is the supreme body for taking any decision on the issues raised by the civil society. The civil society cannot assume powers of elected representatives of Parliament," said Patel, a former Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president, at a function in Savli town here.
"It is people who elect the government and throw it out from the power. How can a group question the government's sovereignty?," he asked.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadiya questioned Ramdev's motives behind undertaking a fast on the issue of graft and black money.
"The Government of India is taking all steps for curbing black money and signing treaties with various countries for avoiding double taxation," he added.
