Chiranjeevi's 'Rising' PRP sun sets with Congress merger
The EC also sent across an official letter expressing their approval in this regard. The official documents have been dispatched to the Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal in Hyderabad. With this new merger, the Praja Rajyam party ceases to exist according to EC records.
The symbol of the party, the Rising Sun have been frozen and the name removed from the list of political parties according to EC records. Party MLC C Ramachandraiah has been quoted as saying, "Hitherto, the PRP was psychologically merged with the Congress. Now that the EC has given the approval, the merger is formalized."
A copy of the letter by the EC will later be submitted to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Nadendla Manohar and the Chairman of the Legislative Council, A Chakrapani. With the merger, the PRP legislators and MLCs will now be considered Congress members.
The Praja Rajyam party was launched amid lots of fanfare in Aug 2008 at Tirupati.
