SC issues notice to Centre on forceful Baba Ramdev eviction

New Delhi, Jun 6: Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre in suo moto cognisance on the police brutality at the Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi. Notice's have been issued to the Union Home Secretary GK Pillai, Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta, Delhi Chief Secretary PK Tripathi and the Delhi administration in general.

An earlier PIL was filed by advocate Ajay Agarwal seeking the events that led to the crackdown on innocent people gathered in Baba Ramdev's pandal. The SC however refused to entertain the PIL petition filed by him. The reason for the rejection being that the details of the petition was leaked to the public before it came up for hearing.

The latest SC notice was issued by a vacation bench of Justices BS Chauhan and Swatenter Kumar seeking a response from those concerned within a period of two weeks. The court has sought the exact circumstances that led to the midnight eviction and that too using brutal force.

The court will hear the matter in the second week of July.
