UP: Mayawati woos farmers;issues new land acquisition policy

The CM on Thursday met a farmers' delegation led by Rakesh Tikait. After the meeting, Maywati claimed, "the central government has neglected the UP farmers' problem, thus UP government has initiated a new law."
Maywati also assured the farmers that their problems will be addressed during the upcoming monsoon session in the Parliament. "BSP will raise land acquisition issue in Monsoon Session of Parliament," said Mayawati while addressing media.
The UP CM offered a three-point policy to deal with the farmers' issue in the state. The policy will come into effect from Thursday.
"Under the new land acquisition policy in Uttar Pradesh, developers will directly take property from the farmers. The role of the government will be that of a felicitator. We will try to ensure that a national policy on land acquisition is made on the lines of the policy in Uttar Pradesh. The Bahujan Samaj Party government has consulted farmers to come up with a new land acquisition policy. The issues of farmers can be resolved only after direct talks with them," said Mayawati while clarifying the new policy on land acquisition.
