Sonia Gandhi releases scheme for mother and infant

New Delhi, May 2: INC President Sonia Gandhi, unveiled an ambitious national healthcare scheme named as "Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakram" that has been aimed to provide free deliveries to pregnant woman and neonatal care services across the nation.

“It is sad that 67,000 women die in child birth every year and nine lakh children die in one month of birth. This scheme will give right to all pregnant women to have free delivery in government health organisations", Mrs. Gandhi said.

This scheme has been inaugrated at Mandikhera village, predominantly Muslim Haryana district of Mewat and is expected to bring safe medical services to more than one crore rural and urban families every year.
