UP farmers forced to become 'kidnappers'? Varanasi on fire

Varanasi, May 29: After Bhatta Parsaul, Varanasi became the center stage for the farmers' agitation against its state government. The farmers allegedly kidnapped a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) along with a police officer, though the hostages escaped successfully.

However, the SDM and the police officials rejected to accept such incident and claimed that they visited the agitation places on their own will. The agitation began when 121 hectares of land was forcefully acquired by the state government against the farmers' consent.

Citing the increasing problem in the state, Prime Minister expressed his concern over "forcefully" land acquisition by the Mayawati government.

Singh, who on his way beck from Africa, claimed, "With regard to land acquisition, I think we need to think afresh. Before venturing into land acquisition abroad, I'd expect our companies to weigh both the political, economic and ecological factors."
