Kani saga: Jaya shows similarities b/n politicians&criminals

Chennai, May 24: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa hurled her first attack on DMK MP Kanimozhi who has currently been lodged in Tihar jail over 2G spectrum scam. Criticising Kanimozhi, Jayalalithaa has shown the similarities between politicians and criminals.

"It's a wrong argument for bail. In politics, no concession is given because you are a woman. Similarly when criminal aspects are concerned you cannot expect leniency because you are a woman," said the Tamil Nadu CM during her press conference on Tuesday, May 24.

The AIADMK chief criticised Kanimozhi as her lawyer, well-known criminal lawyer, Ram Jethmalani had defended Kanimozhi in the special CBI court stating, "She is a mother and should not be sent to jail."

Stating about Kanimozhi's arrest, Jayalalithaa also claimed, "Finally the law is taking its course and people's faith in judicial system has been restored. The recent legal action in 2G has restored people's faith in the judiciary."

Kanimozhi on Monday moved the Delhi High Court and filed her bail plea application. The court on Tuesday issued notice to the investigating agency CBI over the DMK MP's application.

Kanimozhi is one of the main accused in the biggest telecom scam in the country. The accused DMK MP has been chargesheeted by the CBI for allegedly accepting Rs 200 crore bribe for Kalaignar TV - where she owns a share of 20 percent.
