Mamata maintains 'simplicity' in her office chamber

Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, May 23: With austerity the buzzword in the corridors of Writers' Building, cushion chairs in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's official chamber have made way to wooden ones and the floors will be sans the plush carpets.

On Banerjee's directions, the state PWD personnel on Sunday, May 22, entirely overhauled her chamber with new ceiling, compact fluorescent light, cream colour walls and all wooden chairs making it a less expensive but beautiful office.

The entire work was done under direct supervision of PWD Secretary A R Burman, while Banerjee's close aide Ratan Mukherjee inspected the chamber after the work was done.

Replacing cushion chairs, altogether eight wooden chairs, including the chief minister's one, have been placed in the chamber.

The entire floor inside the chamber was earlier covered by carpet, which has been removed responding to the choice of the chief minister, Burman said.

However, the table which was placed earlier was not changed.

"Simplicity is maintained although and there is nothing gorgeous while the chief minister's chamber is given a new look as per her wishes," Burman said.
