Mobile mania: 2G accused caught at sneaking phone in Tihar
Kusegaon fruits and vegetables' director, Rajiv Agarwal, who was arrested with Shahid Balwa's brother Asif Balwa, was seen to smuggle a "BlackBerry" phone in Tihar's Jail No 1, media reports claimed on Sunday, May 22.
Tihar officials, however, quoted as claiming, "We are conducting an inquiry. The punishment may include that his mulaqat (meeting with visitors) period would be withdrawn or reduced."
Reports also claimed that some high profile people, who have been indicted in the 2G spectrum scam, have found to be using mobile phones during their journey to Tihar to Patiala court and during the court trials.
However, the whole incident once again raise questions about the security deferred by the India police in jails and the corruption within the system which allows special treatment for the "VIP" prisoners. The other prime accused of the second generation telecom scam, former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and Shahid Balwa have also been lodged in Tihar jail.
