This should come as a surprise given Kanimozhi was too close to her father, who is sort of worshipped by the DMK party members. Even more surprising is the fact that the next generation of DMK leadership believes that the arrest is a welcome relief for the party which was drubbed badly by AIADMK in the recently concluded assembly polls.
The New Indian Express has quoted a section of the DMK party members as saying, "Why should we feel bad about Kanimozhi's arrest? What has she done to promote Dravidian ideology?", before adding, "Thousands of cadre are ready to sacrifice their lives for 'thalaivar' (leader), but not for the other members of his family."
The daily further quotes a section of the leadership expressing their pain about the loss in the polls and the realisation of the extent to which the 2G scam has affected the party's image. They said, "We are pained that we were not even able to become an opposition party in the Assembly," and blamed the poll-debacle on the alliance with Congress.
Arguing that the decision to give 63 seats to Congress proved to be the game-changer, a section of the DMK leadership have been quoted by the daily as saying, "This made the public believe that Karunanidhi's family was involved in the 2G scam. We repeatedly told him not to accept all the demands of the Congress, but he did not listen to us."
This report about the growing dissatisfaction in the party's lower-ranks should further pile misery on the recent-bout of misfortune that has befallen upon the Kalaignar's family.
