People stop Mamata from entering CM's chamber

Kolkata, May 20: There was a serious security lapse inside Writers' Buildings with West Bengal's first woman chief minister Mamata Banerjee having to enter her office through a different door today (May 20) to take charge.

Finding the main entry to the chief minister's chamber blocked by people who had gathered in huge numbers in the corridor, the chief minister's securitymen had to escort her through the conference room leading to her chamber.

There was jostling inside the protected area of the state secretariat as the throng pressed for a vantage point to have a glimpse of the chief minister.

Mediamen were outnumbered by outsiders with the policemen pleading helplessness in controlling the situation.

Policemen had to virtually give up as a hysteric crowd, including the staff of Writers'' Buildings, broke barricades and entered almost unhindered.
