Petition for Judicial inquiry in the Meerut violence

In the violence that happened in Shastri Nagar area of Meerut and at other places on Hapur road, several vehicles, shops and houses were set on fire. Additional District Magistrate and a SHO was also injured in the stone pelting.
The petition alleges that the victims of the violence have submitted an application to the DM and the DIG to take strict actions against the rioters. However, nothing has been done and so a judicial probe may be considered, states the petition.
The petition is filed by Dr Neel Kant Sharma, advocate of Nigam members, Sunita Ravi and Sanjiv Pundir, whose houses were allegedly burnt in the violence.
The court has fixed the hearing for on Friday, May 20, said Sharma.
We have asked the court to base the inquiry on the LIU (Local intelligence unit) report.
