CPI to go into 'humiliating' defeat of Ernad candidate

Malappuram (Ker), May 19: CPI state unit on Wednesday, May 18 said the party would examine the reason for the defeat of its candidate from Ernad constituency in Malappuram district in the April 13 asssembly election.

The party's State Assistant Secretary C N Chandran told reporters after attending the CPI District Secretariat meeting here that they would go into the issue of resignation of Rahmatulla, CPI National council member.

Besides Chandran, State Executive committee members Benoy viswom and E Chandrasekharan had also attend the meeting. Rahmatulla had joined Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

LDF's CPI candidate Ashrafali Kaliyath had secured only 2700 votes, while P V Anver, an independent had bagged 47,452 votes to emerge behind winning candidate P K Basheer of IUML.
