al-Qaeda welcomes Osama's successor - an Egyptian

Osama Bin Laden
New Delhi, May 18: With the death of 9/11 terror attacks' kingpin - Osama bin Laden, questions were being raised among people that who will succeed Laden to lead the terror outfit al-Qaeda.

Many names were popped out but Egyptian-born doctor and surgeon Ayman al-Zawahri and Ilyas Kashmiri were the two most prominent names which had grabbed the attention. But pouring water on those speculations, al-Qaeda's interim leader Saif al-Adel has been appointed as Laden's successor, sources informed.

According to the CNN report, al-Adel alias Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi has been chosen as a "caretaker" leader of al-Qaeda.

The media report also claimed that the appointment of al-Adel as al-Qaeda chief has been done suddenly as the global jihadist community had grown restive in recent days over the lack of a formal announcement on a successor to bin Laden.

However, many media reports claimed that Ayman al-Zawahiri still is the presumed successor of bin Laden and Adel has been appointed on a temporary basis. Adel is a strategist and senior military leader of the dreadest terror group - al-Qaeda.
