Babri row back to resume dispute; SC stays HC verdict

Babri Masjid
New Delhi, May 9: The Supreme Court on Monday, May 9 has stayed the verdict of Allahabad High Court about Babri Masjid and Ramjanmabhumi land row.

Several Muslim and Hindu groups had challenged the Allahabad High Court's verdict pronounced on Sep 30, 2010.

The High Court earlier pronounced the judgment to divide the 2.77 acre disputed site into three parts among Muslims, Hindus and Nirmohi Akhara.

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered all parties to maintain the status quo. The Supreme Court also ordered all religious groups not to perform any kind of religious activities on 67 acre area adjacent to the disputed site.

The two-judge bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice RS Lodha, criticising the verdict pronounced by Allahabad High Court, said, "This is strange and surprising. Nobody has prayed for partition of the disputed land."
