New appointments in UP Cong ahead of Assembly polls

Lucknow, May 9: In a bid to revamp the party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections early next year, Congress today (May 9) appointed six vice-presidents among senior office bearers.

The vice-presidents are Surendra Goel, Sayedujama, Virendra Nath Pandey, Ranjit Singh Judeo, Vijay Pasi and Ganesh Shankar Pandey, party sources said here.

They said the list of state executive members was approved by party President Sonia Gandhi.

S C Maheshwari has been made treasurer of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC). Besides, there are 45 executive members and 16 special invitees.

The party would soon appoint general secretaries, the sources said.

With the Assembly polls barely some months away, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been laying special emphasis on rejuvenating the party in the state.
