Digvijay Singh
Bhopal, May 8: Congress will not stitch alliance with any big party but will opt for smaller allies in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh next year, party general secretary Digvijay Singh said on Sunday, May 8.

"We are not going to forge an alliance with BJP, BSP and Samajwadi Party for the Uttar Pradesh 2012 assembly polls, rather we will go for alliances with the some smaller parties," Singh told reporters here.

"We will forge alliance with like-minded smaller parties and make some seat adjustments in UP. We are going to form the government for sure," said Singh, who is also the party in-charge of the state.

Asked about the reported demand of his removal as party in-charge of Uttar Pradesh by senior leader and party''s Varanasi unit spokesman Rajesh Kharti, Digvijay said that he bore no grudge against anyone.

"If anyone has a complaint, I am ready to listen to him and apologise," he said.

"If any leader wants to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and complain against me, I will help him seek an audience with the party''s chief," he added.

Khatri has reportedly asked party chief Gandhi to remove Digvijay Singh as party general secretary and UP affairs in- charge for his irresponsible and controversial statements.

"The party would face the consequences in the next state Assembly elections if no timely action is initiated against Singh," Khatri reportedly said.
