Syrian govt launches online attack on Facebook

Media reported that the online attack was done by forged HTTPS version of the Facebook site. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) warned about a possible attack by Syrian Telecom Ministry. The report said that the Syrian Telecom Ministry had launched a 'man-in-the-middle' attack against Facebook users.
Some of the Facebook users saw a warning certificate while they used the site. On clicking this warning message, attackers gained the access and control of their Facebook account. Attackers can monitor and censor users' communications.
Meanwhile, the Western Asian country Syria has been witnessing bloody revolt between the government troops and ant-government protestors, who demand the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad. On Friday, May 6, more than 30 protesters were killed in the firing by Syrian security forces.
