Noida: Farmers protest turns ugly

Noida/Uttar Pradesh, May 7: Farmers agitation, in Uttar Pradesh"s Greater Noida, against the state government's land polices turned ugly after the protestors took a Uttar Pradesh bus driver and two others hostage on Saturday, May 7. The farmers are demanding a higher compensation for their land that has been acquired by the government.

During the protest Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Deepak Agarwal was shot in leg and suffered sever injured.

In a bid to control the situation, save hostages and disperse the protesters, the stationed police personnel fired in the air and lobbed tear gases. The angry farmers turned more violent and also fell back on heavy stone pelting.

According to the reports the protesting farmers have refused to talk with the district administration and said that they would only free the captives after holding talks with UP chief minister Mayawati
