Pakistan, Afghan troops trade heavy fire along border

Islamabad, April 27: Pakistani and Afghan troops today (April 27) traded heavy fire along the border in South Waziristan tribal region that caused casualties on both sides, TV news channels reported.

Three Afghan troops were killed and two Pakistani soldiers were injured in the clash, Dawn News channel reported. There was no official word on the reported clash.

Afghan forces shelled a Pakistani check post near Angoor Adda town in South Waziristan Agency, the reports said.

It was not clear what triggered the reported clash and whether NATO forces were involved in the clash, Dawn News reported.

Pakistan has deployed over 140,000 troops along the border with Afghanistan to guard the frontier and prevent cross-border movement of Taliban militants. There is a huge presence of Afghan and foreign troops on the Afghan side of the border.
