PM, President greet people on Vaishaki festival

New Delhi, Apr 13: President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Apr 13) greeted the people on Vaisakhi, saying the harvest festival provides an occasion to acknowledge farmers'' contribution in nation building.

Greeting the farming community, the President hoped the festival heralding the harvest season would bring peace, happiness and prosperity to people.

In his message, the Prime Minister said these traditional new year festivals celebrated across the country are an occasion to acknowledge the significant contribution of farmers in nation-building.

"These festivals are not only an occasion for joy and celebration but also an occasion to be grateful to nature for its bounty", Singh said.
