Jaya urges EC, police to ensure incident-free election

Chennai, Apr 12: Charging the ruling DMK with unleashing violence ahead of Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, Apr 13, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa today (Apr 12) urged Election Commission and state police to ensure free and fair elections. Recalling incidents of alleged poll-time violence by DMK.

she said her party candidate for Madathukulam constituency C Shanmugavelu and some others had sustained serious injuries when they were "attacked" by DMK men after AIADMK workers objected to their "distributing money" to voters.

"Further, DMDK functionary Asokan was killed by DMK men at Pennagaram," she said in a statement here.

"I request the EC, state Chief Electoral Officer and DGP to depute more number of central paramilitary forces to all parts of the state and ensure there are no untoward incidents. Voters must cast their votes without fear and the EC and others should ensure this," she said.
