Activists plan Tarapur to Jaitapur march

Mumbai, Apr 11: Aiming to increase the pressure on the government, environmental activists who are opposed to Jaitapur nuclear project in coastal Ratnagiri district would be undertaking a march.

It would start at Tarapur, near here, on April 23 and end in Jaitapur.

Project-affected people from various places, such as Tarapur, Haripur (West Bengal), Kakrapar (Gujarat), etc would join the march, said Vaishali Patil, convener of Konkan Vinashkari Prakalp Virodhi Samiti.

Environmentalists Vandana Shiva and Praful Bidwai, among others, are expected to participate in the march.

On April 24, they will reach Raigad Bazaar in Pen and on April 25 they will move through Chiplun.
