Libya: NATO destroys 30% of Gaddafi's military might

Muammar al-Gaddafi
Brussels, April 6: Western countries leading the crusade against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi have destroyed nearly 30 percent of his military power, said a senior official of NATO. The member countries of NATO have taken upon themselves to dethrone Gaddafi after revolts against him broke out in the aftermath of successful uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.

At Brussels, Brigadier General Mark van Uhm, a senior official of NATO told reporters, "The assessment is that we have taken out 30 percent of the military capacity of Gaddafi."

The brigadier also informed that Gaddafi's use of human shields and hiding his weapons in populated areas was hampering NATO's prospects in hitting the targets. He also accepted that the military operation has resulted in a lot of civilian casualties in Libya but declined to give an estimate for the number of victims.

He said, "The operational tempo remains, but we have seen a change of tactics (from Gaddafi)...When human beings are used as shields we don't engage."
