New litigation policy on anvil in Bihar

"The state government has decided to implement a new litigation policy recognising the fact that the state government and its various agencies are the predominant litigants in courts and tribunals in the state," official sources said.
The state cabinet had already approved the law department's proposal to formulate such a policy with a view to reducing government litigation in courts.
Both the Centre and the state government are making efforts to minimise court cases, sources said adding the Centre and states together account for 70 per cent of the three crore cases pending in various courts of India.
One of the features of the new policy is to create a monitoring system at every level - state, districts and department - besides a committee to review departmental cases, they said.
The new policy would also put in place a comprehensive mechanism that would impress upon the departmental heads not not to go in for appeals and litigation against citizen just to harass them, sources said.
