Student shot dead by minister's son

Imphal, Mar 21: A 21-year-old student was shot dead allegedly by the son of a Manipur minister, police said today.

Irom Roger was allegedly shot dead by 27-year-old Ajay Meitei, son of Manipur Minister for Irrigation, Flood Control and Sports N Biren Singh last evening at Kwakeithel area of Imphal West district, they said.

Meitei chased Roger in a vehicle and allegedly shot him from a M-20 pistol, they said, adding that Meitei later surrendered to police with his pistol. Police suspect personal enmity led to the killing.

Today hundreds of people from Roger's locality went to the official residence of the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action against the killer.

Security at the official residence of N Biren Singh has been reinforced with more security forces deployed as people from Roger's locality are planning to march to his residence, police said.
