Kalmadi under CBI scanner yet again

New Delhi, Mar 15: Ex- Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi is in the dock yet again. After earlier interrogation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is questioning Kalmadi yet again for his alleged involvement in the CWG scam.

While there was widespread accusations on his involvement in the overlays scam, catering contracts and the Queen's Baton relay, the one in the scanner at present is the Time Scoring contract. While accusations are rife on Kalmadi receiving kickbacks in the contracts, it is surprising that Kalamdi has not been named an accused in any of the FIR's filed.

He was earlier summoned by the CBI on Jan 5 and his house raided on Dec 24, 2010 to search for evidence on his involvement in the scam. His bank lockers in Pune was also looked into. While Kalmadi still maintains his innocence and washes his hands off all the accusations made against him, the investigative agencies have not been able to clinch that one solid evidence to nail Kalmadi yet.

The Time Keeping equipment contract with the Swiss company is being questioned that led to a loss of Rs 107 crore, that is a small part of the many other dubious contracts made by Kalmadi and party.

The Opposition is crying foul over the delay in investigations against Kalmadi and is pressing for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) be set up for the CWG scam as well.
