Black Money case: Hasan Ali walks free; gets bail

Mumbai, Mar 11: Many got a shock and many reacted strongly when Hasan Ali got bail and walked free in the biggest money laundering case in India. A court in Mumbai on Friday, Mar 11 granted bail to Hasan Ali.

Citing Enforcement Directorate's (ED) lack of preparation in the case, the court allowed Hasan Ali bail. Ali has been accused of stowing away 8 billion dollars in Swiss bank accounts and has been asked to pay 70,000 crores as penalty for tax evasion.

In a great embarrassment to ED, the court stated, "You (ED) have not been able to make any case and you want me to hear you. If you want to do some homework, you can take time."

Hasan Ali, mainly a Pune based businessman, was arrested on Monday, Mar 7. He was admitted to hospital over health problems.
