Mulayam's son, Akhilesh Yadav arrested; turmoil erupts

Lucknow, Mar 9: Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's son was arrested outside the Lucknow airport today. He was arrested after he threatened to hold a three-day agitation in the state against the alleged misrule of the BSP government. He was apprehended when he landed outside the support. Today is the third day of the agitation and party supporters were lathicharged after protests erupted as a result of the high profile arrest.

Last Monday saw the arrest of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son, but was later let off. Mulayam Singh was earlier quoted as saying, "The SP agitation against Mayawati in the state has been successful. I have written a letter to Lok Sabha speaker against the Mayawati government."

The Uttar Pradesh Police have made other preventive arrests across the state including many other SP leaders.
