Nokia N950 MeeGo smartphone due in 2011

Nokia Mobile
Helsinki, Mar 1: Contradictory to our expectations of a Nokia Windows Phone 7 smartphone this year, a Nokia official said that the Finnish phone maker will launch a new model running on MeeGo platform. Yes, you read it right, it's Nokia MeeGo smartphone dubbed as Nokia N950.

The new Nokia N950 MeeGo smartphone will be the successor of Nokia N900. Nokia said that the new model will have "very elegant" hardware and interesting UI. The rumors on N950 started doing rounds after Nokia's CTO Rich Green's talk at Nokia's Developer Day.

Earlier, we reported about a rumored Nokia smartphone scheduled to launch at 2011 Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, but Nokia announced its alliance with Microsoft and the shift in focus to Windows Phone 7 platform. Nokia also announced that they will continue their projects on MeeGo, but many of us took it as a mere marketing strategy.

During the Nokia's Developer Day talk, Green hinted that N950 would be aimed as a platform for developing Qt apps rather for the common men. It seems like Nokia still focusses on Qt development for both Symbian and MeeGo. Stay tuned for the specifications and features of the new Nokia N950.
