UNSC slaps sanctions on Gaddafi, relatives
New York, Feb 27 (ANI): The United Nations Security Council has agreed to impose scores of sanctions against Libya, including an arms embargo, and freezing of the assets of Colonel Gaddafi and his relatives.
The resolution also agreed to refer the regime's crackdown against the anti-government demonstrators in Libya to the International Criminal Court in The Hague for investigation and possible prosecution of anyone responsible for killing civilians, Sky News reports.
The resolution, passed Saturday evening by a 15-member council, voted unanimously to freeze the assets of Gaddafi, his four sons and one daughter, and also impose travel bans on his whole family, and ten other associates.
Hailing the decision of the UNSC, Libya's Deputy UN ambassador, Ibrahim Dabbashi, said that the council's move would provide "moral support for our people who are resisting".
It "will help put an end to this fascist regime which is still in existence in Tripoli," Dabbashi, one of the first Libyan diplomats to denounce Gaddafi, said. (ANI)
