MLA held over rape case; NCP suspends leader

Mumbai, Feb 27: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has already suspended its MLA Dilip Omkar Wagh over the allegation of rape. Now, Nashik Crime Branch officials arrested him. Sources confirmed his arrest and also informed that Wagh will remain in police custody till Thursday, Mar 3.

Wagh, who had gone missing after an FIR was registered against him, has been detained by the police. Sources reported that police has also arrested Wagh's personal assistant, Mahesh Mali who is the co- accused in the crime.

Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra's deputy chief minister stated, "Dilip Wagh says that there is a conspiracy against me. The truth will come out when police completes the investigation. A compliant has been registered and investigation is going on. After the investigation if the allegations are found out to be false then the case would be taken back."

Pawar also added, "We just know about the girl's statement that rape has been attempted. The investigation is going on and party has taken action and when the investigation completes then if Wagh is innocent then case will be taken back."

A girl, hailing from Aurangabad, claimed that she was raped after being promised of a job. Home department officials stated that the girl was invited to Nashik by Wagh in a government guest house. The officials informed, "When the girl visited Nashik, they raped her at a government guest house on Feb 21 and threatened her of dire consequences if she complained against them."

The victim also claimed, "He (Wagh) told me he controlled many big organisations and he would give me a job and asked me to get my bio data along with me."

However, claiming his innocence, Wagh stated, "I was called for interrogation, so I've come here and surrendered myself. The investigations are on... It is definitely a political conspiracy. I have said that earlier too."

This is not the first case where big names like any MLA came out in an alleged rape case. There are several instances where poor Indian women become the victims of lust of different powerful men. Recently, similar kind of charges have been raised against BSP MLA Purushotham Dwivedi and other MLAs of the same party.
