Karbi Anglong requests for 40 companies of security forces
Diphu (Assam), Feb 26 (PTI) Assam''s hill district ofKarbi Anglong has requested the government to send 40companies of security forces for the forthcoming assemblypolls in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
Superintendent of Police Anurag Agarwal told reportershere that several militant outfits including NDFB (Anti-Talkfaction), NSCN(IM), Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) among othersare active in the district.
''''The security forces have launched massive operationsin the district during the last two months in which onemilitant was killed while 17 others belonging to differentgroups have been arrested'''', he said.
Huge quantities of arms and ammunitions includingexplosives, gelatine sticks, detonators, grenades, rifles,pistols and SBBL guns have been recovered during theoperations.
The police have stepped up operations against themilitants successfully but there was a need of more securitypersonnel during the forthcoming assembly polls, he said.
Operations against militants would continueand adequate security measures have been chalked out to avoidany untoward incident, Agarwal added.
