Pak court throws out contempt of court petition against Wahab

M ZulqernainLahore, Feb 26 (PTI) A Pakistani court has dismissed apetition seeking contempt of court proceedings against formerPPP spokesperson Fauzia Wahab for making controversialstatements about diplomatic immunity to double murder accusedCIA contractor Raymond Davis.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Chaudhrydismissed the petition yesterday and observed: "Statements bypoliticians do not affect court proceedings as they expresstheir personal views".

Lawyer Rana Ilamuddin Ghazi had filed the petition inwhich he contended that Wahab had said during a newsconference that Davis enjoyed diplomatic immunity.

He said Wahab knew that a case on Davis'' diplomaticstatus is pending in the High Court and she should not havemade such remarks.

Ghazi further contended that Wahab''s action amountedto contempt of court and he asked the court to initiatecontempt proceedings against her.

Wahab lost her position as Pakistan People''s Partyspokesperson after she told the media that Davis was entitledto diplomatic immunity and could not be arrested.

The Lahore High Court is set to hear a case on Davis''diplomatic status on March 14.

Davis was arrested in Lahore on January 27 after heshot and killed two armed men he claimed were trying to robhim.

The matter has been complicated following revelationsthat Davis was a security contractor working for the CIA. PTIMZ RHL
