Draft state biodiversity rules submitted to govt
Kohima, Feb 26 (PTI) After a prolonged exerciseinvolving various stakeholders, an expert committee hassubmitted the draft Nagaland Biodiversity Rules to the stategovernment.
The five-member Expert Committee on Biological Diversitywas formed under the supervision of Nagaland Empowerment ofPeople through Economic Development (NEPED), an autonomousgovernment body, to prepare the draft rules.
The panel held series of discussions, seminars andworkshops at grass root levels for nearly two years besidesreceiving views and suggestions from individuals whileformulating the draft. Thousands responded to the questionaresthrough e-mails to the NEPED website.
It is expected that a bill in this regard might betabled in the budget session of the assembly after it receivesthe state cabinet�s approval.
Informing this to newsmen here, the members of thecommittee described the draft as a landmark achievement sincethe villagers responded overwhelmingly to the participatoryapproach adopted by the panel while preparing the report. moreMORE PTI AP
