Upadhyay to launch stir against BJP govt
Dehra Dun, Feb 24 (PTI) Senior Congress MLA KishoreUpadhyay will launch a stir in and outside the LegislativeAssembly next month to protest alleged step-motherly treatmentby Uttarakhand government towards his constituency Tehri.
In a statement, Upadhyay said he would take out a "DholNaad" rally upto Chief Minister''s residence here on March 13and would sit on an indefinite dharna in the House on thefirst day of the budget session in the Assembly, beginningfrom March 14.
Upadhyay had sat on a dharna in the House during theprevious Assembly session. However, on the assurance of ChiefMinister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, he had ended the dharna.
He said the problems being faced by the people of Tehriand Uttarkashi districts due to construction of controversial2,400 MW Tehri dam are not being resolved by the BJPgovernment despite repeated requests in this regard.
He alleged that the current government did not sanctionany new development projects in his constituency and evenstopped or delayed the projects which were approved by theprevious Congress government.
Upadhyay is demanding to open a degree college, ahospital and strengthening of drinking water and transportfacilities in the area where the population was rehabilitateddue the Tehri dam construction.
