Three arrested for rape attempt

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Three persons were today arrestedfor their alleged attempt to rape a young woman and her niecein outer Delhi, police said.

The arrested have been identified as Sanjeev, Monu andSunil.

The 32-year-old woman and her 22-year-old niece, whoreside in Sharda JJ Colony, was allegedly attacked by the trioon February 21, police said.

The women had left for New Delhi Railway Station and hadboarded a Gramin Sewa auto, which was driven by Sanjeev.

They were on their way to a bus stop when he suddenlyturned his vehicle around and took the women near hisresidence where his friends were present.

"The trio pushed the women inside their house andattempted to rape them. The women managed to escape from thescene. Initially they did not approach police," a seniorpolice official said.

The niece left for Uttar Pradesh and the woman told herhusband about the incident. "Initially a case of molestationwas registered. But after the niece came back, we converted itto a case of attempted rape," the official said.
