Student tries to commit suicide after being allegedly slapped

Batala (Punjab), Feb 24 (PTI) Allegedly slapped andinsulted by a teacher for not doing his homework, a tenthclass student of Government Senior Secondary School here todaytried to commit suicide by taking some poisonous substance.

Jugraj Singh was taken to hospital by his parents in aserious condition, the police said.

The student alleged that computer teacher Bachitar Singhhad insulted him for not doing his homework and slapped him inthe presence of other students.

"I left school and when I was going back home, BachitarSingh chased me in his car and again assaulted me andthreatened me with dire consequences" Jugraj alleged.

Jugraj said he locked himself up in his room and consumedpoisonous substance, after which he started vomitting.

However, Bachitar Singh said Jugraj was asked to expressregrets for not doing his homework but the student threatenedhim with dire consequences and fled from the school.

He said a complaint against Jugraj Singh was lodged withthe police for allegedly threatening him.
