Proposals welcome; disappointed with no train for Cbe region

Coimbatore, Feb 25 (PTI): Generally welcoming the Railwaybudget proposals, Tirupur Exporters'' Association (TEA) todayexpressed disappointment over non introduction of any newtrains to this region, except a Link Express from Coimbatoreto Turicorin.

In a statement, TEA president, A Shaktivel said the longpending request of this region for introducing train servicesfrom Coimbatore to Bangalore has also not been fulfilled inthis budget.

He said keeping passenger fares of any class or categoryat the same level in the current economic scenario andreduction of online ticket booking charges and also throughnormal way would be beneficial to passengers.

Maintaining of freight rate at the same level would benefitindustry, he said and welcomed the proposal for technologyupgradation in Railways and also upgradation of stations.

The concession for senior citizens and physically disabledwas a welcome step, but regretted there was no specificannouncement on infrastructure development in this region. PTINVM APR
