Poll expenses hiked for parliamentary, assembly seats
New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) In the backdrop of demands bypolitical parties, government today enhanced the electionexpenditure of candidates to Rs 40 lakh for parliamentaryconstituencies and Rs 16 lakh for assembly seats.
A Law Ministry notification said the "maximum limit" ofelection expenses now stood at Rs 40 lakh for parliamentaryconstituencies and Rs 16 lakh assembly constituencies.
So far, the maximum limit for parliamentaryconstituencies was Rs 25 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for assemblyseats.
The notification, issued in consultation with theElection Commission, will further amend the Conduct ofElections Rules, 1961. .
