Omar Abdullah condoles death of Amar Chitra Katha creator 'Uncle Pai'
New Delhi, Feb 25(ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condoled the death of Anant Pai, popularly known as 'Uncle Pai', who passed away in Mumbai on Thursday.
Uncle Pai was the creator of Indian comics, in particular the Amar Chitra Katha series in 1967, which retold traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories, and biographies of historical characters. Pai followed it up with Tinkle comics series, a children's anthology.
"Sad to hear about Uncle Pai. Grew up on a steady diet of Amar Chitra Katha comics from Kashmir Bookshop and my yearly subscription of Tinkle," Abdullah said in his post on Twitter.
The 81-year-old was admitted to a hospital last week for treatment of a fracture after he fell from a staircase.
He suffered a massive heart attack on Thursday morning, and breathed his last around 5 p.m.
Amar Chitra Katha sells about three million comic books a year in English and over 20 Indian languages. (ANI)
