Naxals abducted 782 people in 2010
New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Maoists violence continuedunabated in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected states as morethan 1,000 people have lost their lives in Naxal violence and782 people were kidnapped by the rebels in 2010.
There were 2,210 incidents of violence perpetrated bythe Maoists which led to the deaths of 1,001 people last year,official sources said.
Among the civilian deaths, 321 people were killed by theNaxals labelling them as police informers while 285 policemenwere killed by the rebels in encounters and exploding blasts-- mostly IEDs.
During the period, 160 Maoists were killed by securityforces and arrested 2,908 of their cadres. Altogether 260Naxals surrendered too.
The naxals also kidnapped 782 people in 2010, thoughmost of them remained unreported due to various reasons.
The Maoists also attacked 365 infrastructures, includingtelephone towers, school buildings, bridges, community centresetc.
Among the major Naxal violence in 2010 include killingof 76 security personnel in Chhattisgarh''s Dantewada, death of36 people, many of them security personnel, when Naxals blewup a bus in Chhattisgarh''s Bijapur districts besides others.
