Man comes under chariot wheel, dead

Panaji, Feb 24 (PTI) An elderly man was killed here afterhe came under a chariot wheel while trying to save hisgrandson at Mardol village, 25 kms away from here, police saidtoday.

75-year-old Pundalik Vitthal Neurekar, from Karwar inKarnataka, died after receiving injuries in the mishap, whichoccured yesterday at famous Mahalsa Narayani temple in Mardolvillage, they said.

Eye witnesses said the grandfather leapt in frontof a chariot which was being pulled by devotees to save hisfive-year-old grandson from getting under the wheels.

Pundalik was shifted to Goa Medical College andhospital near here immediately where he was declared dead.

Police Inspector C L Patil said that he died due toexcessive bleeding.

His family had come to Mahalsa Narayani temple to witnessthe annual event here.
