Escaped tamed elephant found dead

Coimbatore, Feb 24 (PTI) A 27-year-old tamed elephant, whichescaped from a camp in Top Slip near Pollachi in the districtwas found dead, forest department sources said.

This was for the first time in the last 10 years, a tamedelephant was escaping from the camp, as the tusker, Karthik,might have gone on the night of Monday with the musth, thesources said.

Thre were 22 elephants in the camp and they were notchained during nights and let free to roam in the forests, asthey used to return next mornings, they said.
