Cotton crop production estimated at 307 lakh bales

Coimbatore, Feb 25 (PTI): As against the estimates ofCotton Advisory Board of 329 lakh bales of cotton productionin the current season (Oct-Sep), the South India CottonAssociation (SICA) here has arrived at a figure of 307 lakhbales, considering various reasons for the shortfall.

SICA, during its review of cotton scenario, concluded thatagro-climatic changes in different cotton producing states haschanged the scenario to a considerable extent. Moreover, theexport policy announcements have also affected cotton supplyand stock position, K N Vishwanathan, SICA secretary said.

According to estimates, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan willhave a production of 39 lakh bales, Gujarat 100 lakh,Maharashtra 77 lakh, Madhya Pradesh 17 lakh, Karnataka eightlakh, Andhra Pradesh 58 lakh Tamil Nadu five lakh, Orissa twolakh and others one lakh bales, he said.
