Woman dies, three hospitalised due to suspected acid poisoning
Kanpur, Feb 22 (PTI) A woman died and three othersfell ill today in Chakeri here due to suspected poisoning byacid vapours emanating from sewer pipes.
Acid, leaking from a stationary tanker, mixed with thedischarge flowing in a nearby drain and reached in form ofvapours to the toilets in the locality, SP (City) KusharSaurabh said.
The vapours diffused into air and residents of thelocality rushed out of their houses due to strong foul odour,with many complaining dizziness and nausea.
A woman Shabbo, 25, was taken to a local hospital in aserious condition where she died, the official said, howeverhe refused to confirm cause of her death.
Three others were also admitted after they shownsimilar symptoms.
Locals also said three goats also died in the localitythis evening when the vapours spread.
The diver and helper of the tanker are absconding, hesaid, adding fire authorities are trying to control theemanating vapours from sewers by dumping lime into it.
