Orissa Assembly paralysed over dal scam

Bhubaneswar, Feb 22 (PTI) Amidst uproar, the OrissaAssembly was paralysed over dal scam for the second day todaywith repeated adjournments as Congress MLAs stormed the welldemanding probe into irregularities in supply of pulses formid-day meal (MDM) and other schemes in all 30 districts.

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition BhupinderSingh of Congress who accused BJD government of failing tokeep its promise made at an all-party meet about probe intoscam in supply of dal for MDM and supplementary nutritionprogramme (SNP) meant for children and pregnant women.

As his Congress colleagues displayed placardsdemanding a broader probe into the dal scam, Singh said thegovernment had promised to produce all information anddocuments relating to the scam before the House, but it wasyet to do so.

Similarly, the state government was yet to widen thepurview of investigation by the anti-corruption vigilancedepartment to cover all the 30 districts of the state, Singhsaid, adding the probe was still confined to five districts.

Angry over government''s failure to keep its word,Congress legislators trooped into the well shouting slogansand creating noisy scenes to press for their demand.

BJP members resorted to slogan shouting to attack thegovernment from their seats.

The House was adjourned several times as uproariousscenes was witnessed repeatedly and appeals from the Chair forrestoration of order went unheeded.
