Opp should allow smooth functioning of Parliament: Cong

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) With the government todayaccepting the demand for JPC probe into 2G Spectrum scam, theCongress today urged the Opposition to allow a smooth BudgetSession.

"Now that the Prime Minister has said that a motionwill be moved to constitute JPC, we sincerely hope that thisimportant Budget Session functions smoothly and all oppositionparties agree to it that the session can carry out itsbusiness constructively," party spokesperson JayanthiNatarajan told reporters.

Asked whether the party regretted the washout of theWinter Session, she said, "We regret that the opposition didnot allow Parliament to function in the Winter Session thoughwe tried our best to convince the opposition that debate inParliament should not become a victim of politicalexpediency."

Natarajan also dismissed the contention that thegovernment should have accepted the JPC demand earlier to savethe Winter Session saying the government has taken all othersteps to ensure a fair investigation in the case and agreed toJPC because the opposition was not letting Parliament runwithout such a probe.
