CWG ghost back to haunt Kalmadi's men; 2 arrested

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the two men under charges of criminal conspiracy and intent to cheat. Bhanot was the Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, while Verma was the Director General of the Games. Both were considered key allies of Kalmadi in turning the CWG into a national shame that drew flak for India in the world's eyes.
This time the CBI is investigating Bhanot's and Verma's involvement in the Rs 107 crore contract delivered to a Swiss company for providing services involving timekeeping equipments that were used in various sporting events during the games.
A CBI spokesperson has been quoted as saying, "It is alleged that the accused officers abused their official position and entered into criminal conspiracy with a Switzerland-based company and other unknown persons to cheat the government in awarding contract to the said company for acquiring Timing, Scoring and Result (TSR) System at exorbitant rates of Rs. 107 crore thereby causing huge loss to the government."
